The direct care staff provides individuals with assistance and support necessary for the individual to complete personal care, health maintenance, and independent living tasks; participate in community activities and develop, retain, and improve community living skills.  This position will be providing care to either high functioning male clients or moderate to high functioning female clients across multiple locations across Rowlett and Garland.  Shifts are available Friday evenings, and day/overnight shifts on Saturday and Sunday with a starting pay rate of $13.00 per hour.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Provides continuous on-going active treatment by supporting all areas of program training, operations, and the overall needs of the Individual in the Group Home.
  • Provide transportation for 'individuals, via company vehicles and maintain status to legally operate company vehicles. (You must have a valid/current Texas Driver's License enabling you to drive at all times.)
  • Ensure the rights of the Individual, treating them with dignity and respect.
  • Complete all documentation required for Individuals and Company operations
  • Know and comply with all Company policies/guidelines per the policy and Employee Handbook/Guidebooks.
  • Conduct all matters in a professional and mature manner while representing the Company.
  • To stay alert and awake while on duty, ensuring a safe and clean living environment at all times.
  • Model and reinforce all needs of Individuals and Group Home operations by "leading by example".
  • Attend all in-services/training as scheduled to meet the needs of the Group Home, Individual, and the Company.
  • Communicate timely all Individual, home and vehicle needs to the Group Home Manager.
  • Assist/monitor all self-medication passes and performance of tasks delegated by the Nurse. Immediately notify the Nursing staff when an error is found or occurs.
  • Encourage and support Individual to be active in community events, outings, and opportunities. Facilitate social interaction and socially valued behavior. Give Individuals a choice of their activities.
  • Ensure menus and diets are followed.

Minimum: High School Diploma or GED; two years' experience in Direct Care and leadership
experience preferred. Minimum age of 18 years of age. Must have been a licensed driver for at least one year.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret social work materials, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions for groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.

Maintain a current/valid Texas Driver's License and Automobile Liability Insurance.

Must have good health in order to maintain an acceptable attendance record as established by the Agency. May be required to work non-standard hours. Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands or fingers, reach with hands and arms, feel, see, talk, and hear. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds. Employee may occasionally be exposed to bodily fluids, fumes, or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
